Nepal’s Rain-Triggered Disasters Claim 140 Lives This Monsoon Season
In its latest report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said there were 1,454 separate disaster incidents nationwide. Of those affected, 30 people remain missing, while 300 others suffered injuries.
Landslides proved the deadliest, claiming 67 lives, followed by floods with 37 deaths and lightning strikes with 29, the report stated. Overall, 5,995 families were impacted by various calamities between May 29 and Oct. 10, the duration of the monsoon period.
The authority also reported that an additional 120 people lost their lives and 622 sustained injuries from other incidents, including fires and snakebites, during the same timeframe.
