Pentagon Cuts US Brigade Combat Teams in Europe from Four to Three
(MENAFN) The Pentagon announced Tuesday that the number of US Brigade Combat Teams stationed in Europe will be reduced from four to three, according to reports.
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the move would return American troop levels in Europe to what they were in 2021. He described the decision as part of a broad review process examining US military posture across the continent.
According to Parnell, the reassessment has also led to a temporary delay in a planned US troop deployment to Poland, despite describing Warsaw as a key American ally.
He explained that final decisions regarding troop positioning in Europe will depend on further evaluations of US strategic and operational requirements, as well as assessments of how much European allies can contribute to regional defense responsibilities.
Parnell framed the review within the context of Donald Trump’s “America First” approach, arguing that European nations should assume a larger role in managing conventional defense across the region.
He also noted that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke earlier Tuesday with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz regarding the decision and future military planning between the two countries.
